Resilience
Definition - The capacity to withstand or recover quickly from difficult situations, TOUGHNESS
Mental perspective
Resilience is the ability to adapt well in the face of adversity, trauma, or significant stress, allowing one to "bounce back" from difficult experiences.
Key aspects of resilience
Adaptability:
Resilience is about being flexible and able to adjust to changing circumstances and demands, both internal and external.
Mental and emotional regulation:
This involves being aware of your emotions and having the ability to calm yourself and manage feelings during tough times, maintaining a sense of optimism.
Problem-solving:
Resilient people tend to be aware of their situation and can think of new ways to tackle problems.
Learned skill:
Resilience is not a fixed trait; it's a skill that can be developed and strengthened through practice, similar to learning to ride a bike.
Growth from adversity:
Rather than simply bouncing back, resilience can also involve moving through difficulties and even growing from the lessons and experiences they provide.
Social and other factors:
Resilience is influenced by a combination of factors, including your coping strategies, social resources, and even how you view and engage with the world.
Ubuntu
African philosophy of “ubuntu” — a concept in which your sense of self is shaped by your relationships with other people. It’s a way of living that begins with the premise that “I am” only because “we are.”

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”

Alfred Daniel’s wrestling journey began in Harlem, where he joined the Harlem Jets Wrestling Club as a young boy. Over the past 14+ years, Alfred has become a standout athlete — earning All-American honors at the high school, junior college, and Division III levels.
Now, Alfred has the opportunity to represent Sierra Leone, his home country, at the Senior World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia this September. This marks his first appearance on the world stage — and a critical step toward his ultimate goal: competing in the 2028 Olympic Games.
We are raising funds to support Alfred’s travel, training, and competition expenses. Your donation will help make this dream a reality — and inspire the next generation of wrestlers from Harlem to Freetown.
Donate today and be part of Alfred’s Olympic journey.
Youth development is everyone's responsibility. We are grateful for your support.
